On board the Africa Mercy...

So I decided I would write a blog about my trip... partly for myself so I have a kind of diary, but also so anyone who is interested can see what I’m up to with a few pictures and what not.

This is the ship I'm on...

Today is Monday and I have been here a week and 2 days already, time is going so fast it’s scary, but when I think about it so much has happened already. I currently have 5 room-mates. One person has already left and 2 arrived in the last few days.

I have been working for a week also, my job: hospitality hostess, which basically means we get everything ready for new crew and guests...so making their beds, getting them some cookies! (Which also means we get to bake cookies) giving them tours of the ship and we also set up for functions on board.

I am having an amazing time on board, the people are amazing, my roommates are really cool and there are pictures of a few of them below... I’m having a lot of fun just getting to know loads of new people, and as I said in an e-mail to a few people, it’s amazing being on board with hundreds of people who are not only volunteering but paying to be on board. There is such an attitude of serving, there are so many people who are qualified to do so many things but they are just here cleaning toilets or serving food.

These are 3 of my room-mates. Me, Lauren, Cindy and Sarah

Tenerife is not at all what I expected, in a good way!! It is basically like a Spanish city, there are some photos below of some random things that I’ve got up to, mainly walking round the town, eating ice-cream. I went to the beach last weekend, and this weekend I went to an all you can eat buffet, and just wandered about all afternoon!

Mercy Ships took a service at a local church on Sunday. It was an English speaking church mostly full of expats I think! We don’t have services on Sunday morning because they encourage us to go to local churches while we are on board. We went up a big mountain after the church service which was amazing; I thought it looked like the moon!
